Vickie Shankles

ALS Angel

Vickie was diagnosed with ALS in August of 2021. She faced her diagnosis with bravery and strength, tackling each obstacle as it came along. She was an inspiration to those around her and showed us that even when facing the darkest situations, there is a way to see the light.

Vickie's family was always her top priority. Vickie was happily married to Rick, and they loved and supported each other for 32 years. They were by each other's side through the easy times and the tough times, always finding a way to come out of the tough times stronger. Even with something as difficult as an ALS diagnosis, they found a way for it to bring them even closer together.

Vickie was a stay-at-home mom for their three children, Amanda, Richard, and Cameron. Vickie made it possible for them to do any extracurriculars they wanted. She got them to every practice and was in the stands for every game. Vickie was always her children's number one fan. She was always available for them, whether it was venting about coaches or running to get last-minute supplies for a school project. Even as her children became adults, she still showed up to watch them play in rec leagues, coach youth leagues, and was always a phone call away to listen to whatever was on their minds. Vickie made sure her children always knew they were loved and cared for.

In her spare time, Vickie loved to bake beautiful desserts. She enjoyed creating new recipes and trying new designs. She put her best into each cake, making it look as perfect as possible. Even when ALS changed what this hobby looked like for her, she still loved "supervising" Rick recreating her favorite recipes.

After a valiant fight, Vickie passed from ALS on August 6, 2024, surrounded by her family.
